HelloSign is now Dropbox Sign. The UI moved to sign.dropbox.com, but the job is the same: get your signed PDFs (and the source files behind templates) out without buying an API plan. This guide is the free download path, then how Docracy continues the signing workflow.
Why there's no "Connect your account" button
Dropbox Sign's free API mode only produces watermarked, non-binding test documents — it can't pull your real signed files. Real production API access sits on separate paid API tiers, priced above the consumer plans most people are on. We won't ask for your Dropbox password either.
Exporting from HelloSign (Dropbox Sign)
- Sign in at sign.dropbox.com (or the Dropbox Sign app you already use).
- Open a completed signature request from your Documents / Activity list.
- Choose Download, Download PDF, or Download Signed ZIP.
- If you need the original template source, open the template and download the underlying PDF or Word file when the UI offers it.
- Repeat for each document — one-click bulk export needs Team Sync / admin features, not available on typical individual plans.
Templates are stored in Dropbox Sign's own template system with no documented one-click "export template with fields" for individuals — the source PDF or Word file is standard, but the reusable field layout is proprietary.
What transfers (and what doesn't)
- Signed PDFs and signed ZIPs of completed requests.
- Source PDF/Word files when you download them from a template or draft.
- Does not transfer: Dropbox Sign template field layers, signer roles, or SMS/identity add-ons as live Docracy settings.
Tips for HelloSign (Dropbox Sign)
- Prefer Download PDF when you only need the final signed file; use Signed ZIP if you also want attachments Dropbox Sign bundled.
- For recurring NDAs, keep an unsigned master PDF in Drive/Dropbox and upload that to Docracy as your template source.
- WhatsApp signing is available on Docracy after you migrate — Dropbox Sign has no equivalent WhatsApp delivery path.
Once you have the PDF
Upload it to Docracy the same way you'd upload any file. Our AI field detection scans the page and suggests where signature, date, and text fields probably go — usually faster than placing them by hand, especially on a form you already know well.

Where your documents end up
Docracy isn't a long-term archive by design — completed documents and their audit trail are encrypted and automatically deleted after a short retention window (9 days by default), the same as everything else on the platform. If you're migrating documents over, you'll want them to land somewhere permanent, not just disappear again.
A paid account ($10/mo) can connect Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, or Google Drive — once linked, every completed document auto-uploads there the moment everyone's signed, so it lives in your own storage going forward. Zapier and webhooks cover any other destination (a CRM, a shared drive, an internal tool) if none of those four fit.
